Walcot exacted revenge for last months home loss with a 43-17 away victory at Bath Old Edwardians. Still hurting from their early season defeat they turned in a comprehensive display to outplay their hosts. But it was the home side that showed early promise with two well worked tries through some impressive handling and running lines allowing Paul Eke and Craig Davies to touch down and bring the score to 14 - 0 inside the first quarter. This sparked the visitors into life and they showed why they are riding high in the league with a more disciplined performance. The Walcot forwards were effective in the breakdown and ruthless with turnover ball . And their backs had a cutting edge with the counter attack which allowed them to to keep the scoreboard ticking over by taking their opportunities with aplomb. OE's made more of the game than the margin of victory might suggest and it was largely due to a number of uncharacteristic errors, particularly at the breakdown, which meant that it was difficult to keep the momentum going and they had to deal with defending turnover ball whilst on the back foot. They failed to make the most of their territorial advantage when they had it. But they never let their heads go down and played with typical gusto. OE's skipper Guy Levell said 'It was one of those games that things didn't go our way. We were hoping to get the double over Walcot but it wasn't to be but we'll learn from this and we're looking forward to taking on league leaders Old Redcliffians on Saturday'. |
And as it appeared in the Bath Chronicle...
